Edwards and Gary O'Neil each possess previous links with the club
Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.
And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the club - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
However the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is said to have support from the club board as they start the search of hiring a new head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
